Did you know Fibromyalgia is estimated to impact around 1 in 20 people?
This statistic shows the importance of raising awareness and continuing the research to help the millions of people in the UK living with the condition.
Fibromyalgia is a long-term condition that causes persistent pain all over the body. As well as widespread pain, other symptoms will include but are not limited to fatigue and non-refreshing sleep, and brain or fibro fog.
Although there is currently no cure for Fibromyalgia, there are treatments to help relieve some of the symptoms and make the condition easier to live with. Hydrotherapy and relaxing in warm water are a great way for those suffering with the condition to find some potential respite. Routine soaks can also help relieve stress which is another that can make symptoms more intense.
Research shows that using a hot tub can help relieve aches, pains and muscle stiffness and therefore a hot tub could be a huge help to someone living with the condition.
How does a hot tub ease aches, pains and muscle stiffness?
As the heated water warms an individual’s muscles, they gain added flexibility, allowing them to stretch and ease tightness. The hot tub water will reduce the force of gravity that compresses a person’s joints while the flow of the water supports sore limbs.
Helen’s story:
To share the impacts of the condition to a person’s everyday life and the positive impact a hydrotherapy experience offers to those living with the condition, we recently interviewed our customer, Helen from Chesterfield, who has been living with Fibromyalgia for 8 years.
Helen shares with us how using her hot tub has had a positive impact on the pain and symptoms she faces daily.
- How long have you lived with the condition for? I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 8 years ago. It was a relief when I was diagnosed, as I had been really lethargic for a while, therefore it was good to finally know what was causing it. Many people haven’t heard of the condition and have no idea what it is. It affects me every day and some days can be worse than others. We definitely need more awareness about the condition as it can affect people of all ages.
- What are the main symptoms of Fibromyalgia you experience? There are many symptoms I suffer from. It makes me feel really lethargic and some days I may struggle to get out of bed. It can make me feel depressed and it can be frustrating too. I also suffer from brain fog; it affects my ability to think and can make me feel confused at times too.
- Being a hot tub owner, have you noticed any benefits linked to using a hot tub with the condition? Although there is currently no cure for the condition, I decided to get a hot tub as I had heard it may help relieve some of the symptoms. Soaking in the hot tub can help relieve stress and helps soothe aches and pains. Hydrotherapy and the feeling of relaxing in the warm water is a respite from the condition.
- How has using a hot tub helped you manage the condition? The main thing the hot tub has helped me with is relaxation. I go in every day and when I feel relaxed it is much easier to manage the condition. I would recommend getting a hot tub to anyone who is suffering from fibromyalgia.
