International Stress Awareness Week 2022
International Stress Awareness Week is a major annual event focusing on stress management and campaigning against the stigma associated with stress and mental health issues. It was created in 2018 to raise awareness about stress prevention. The highlight of the week is Stress Awareness Day, established over 24 years ago in 1998.
This year International Stress Awareness Week is taking place from the 7 – 11 November 2022. To help raise awareness we are sharing the ways in which a hot tub can reduce an individual’s stress levels and the positive impacts on a person’s general wellbeing.
Stress is a common natural reaction that most people will experience in their lives. As a result of stress, people are often in search for ways to relive tension and help unwind. Unfortunately, stress can have a detrimental impact on a person’s health and it is important to recognise the symptoms and take time to relax.
There are many ways that a person can look to relieve the amount of stress they are dealing with, with one being hydrotherapy – the use of water as a treatment.
Hydrotherapy is well known for its many positive impacts on the body. It has been used for centuries to help reduce pain and swelling, improve strength – and to ease stress. When an individual has had a particularly stressful day at work, climbing into a hot tub at the end of the day can be a great way to release the tension that has built up in the body throughout the day. The temperature and feeling of weightlessness provided by the water takes the physical pressure from the limbs and can induce the feeling of instant relaxation.
According to BISHTA, the British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association, the benefits of hot tubs are as follows:
High stress levels can impact an individual’s mindset and overall health therefore reducing quality of life. Stress and anxiety are often associated with muscle tension – something that can affect anyone at any time. To help release any tension or reduce stress levels, it often helps to switch off and take a break away from everyday life. Having a clear mind allows an individual to focus on themselves and not the surrounding distractions.
But how exactly does a hot tub help with stress relief?
The hydromassage will help to relieve tension in the body and muscles
Soaking in a hot tub produces endorphins, offering a more relaxed and happier state of mind
Soft, ambient colours from the LED lights will help create a calming environment
Listen to the gentle sounds of the great outdoors or your favourite album to alleviate stress
Hydrotherapy is also proven to help improve sleep patterns, which in return will benefit an individual’s overall health
A hot tub is the perfect space to unwind and relax, offering respite when life may feel a little overwhelming. The combination of warm water, LED lighting, aromatherapy, ambience and soothing jets are guaranteed to massage away tension and a build-up of stress.
