A day in the life of a Retail Sales Executive

Man cleaning hot tub

Meet Jordan, our Retail Sales Executive, who is based at our Derby Showroom. Jordan joined the Superior Wellness family in May 2020 and has been a real asset to our team since starting with us. To offer a behind the scenes look at what goes on at our Derby showroom, Jordan shares what his role involves and why we enjoys working at Superior Wellness.

What is your role?

My role as Retail Sales Executive starts with the upkeep and responsibility of the Derby showroom, ensuring it has a warm and friendly atmosphere so that customers feel comfortable upon their visit. I am responsible for selling the products that make up our various product ranges. To ensure I can fulfil my role efficiently, the correct tools and resources must be in place. To achieve this, I work closely with other departments within the business such as marketing, logistics, warehouse and finance to ensure a smooth customer journey.

What does your role entail?
Communicating with customers, face to face, over the phone and by email. Each customer is different, and will need a different type of communication skill, to engage them and build trust with our brand. I am also responsible for the upkeep of the showroom, ensuring it is tidy, products are clean, and our chemicals are restocked. Not every customer visits the showroom to purchase a hot tub, some are existing customers wanting advice or to restock their filters or chemicals.

Find out more about what Jordan’s typical day looks like:

9am – Arrive at Derby, check all hot tubs, chemicals, clean the hot tubs and ensure the showroom is ready for opening to the public at 9:30am.

10am – I check my emails, live chat and the phones for any voicemails. At this point, I also reply to any messages that may have come in the night before.

11am – I review the stock levels for the day, so if any customers enquire, I know what products we have available and what is currently in stock and ready for delivery

12pm – Time for some lunch. I get meals from Chesterfield on a Saturday ‘Freshprep’ ready for my lunch at Derby.

12.30pm – Usually afternoons are when the customers come in. A walk in can last anything from 5 minutes to an hour depending on their enquiry. Today I have a customer who is looking to buy a Thermals Spas hot tub that she has seen on our Facebook page.  We have one in the showroom so I demonstrate how it works.  Another customer pops in to buy some chemicals for their hot tub.  We stock chemicals and filters here at Derby.

3pm – I catch up on any live chat enquiries or phone calls and give customers a call back if they need any help. I speak to one customer who is looking to buy a hot tub.  They are unsure what brand they would like but know they need one for five people. I talk through the different options and benefits and then send them the spec sheets for the recommended hot tubs.

4pm – I check all emails before I finish. Any missed calls I have, I will call them back and leave a voicemail if unable to get through.  The phones can get busier now as some people are finishing work and call to ask when their hot tub is due to arrive.

4:30pm – I begin shutting down the showroom for the day, ensuring everything is left tidy ready for the next day.

5pm – The day has flown by and it is now home time. I have football training tonight, so I head straight up the M1 to Stocksbridge!

What do you love most about your job?
The most satisfying part of the job is knowing you’ve made a customer’s decision simple and enjoyable. It is important to me that when a customer walks out of the door, they are confident that they have made the correct decision in choosing us as their preferred retailer.
